Course Overview

Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) typing plays a pivotal role in modern medicine, particularly in organ and stem cell transplantation, disease association studies, and personalized immunology. With advances in molecular diagnostics, precise HLA characterization has become essential for improving transplant outcomes, reducing rejection risks, and tailoring therapies.

Through structured lectures, case-based learning, and assessments, participants will gain both theoretical insights and practical knowledge, preparing them to integrate HLA testing effectively into clinical practice. This HLA typing course is structured into three modules over eight weeks. The first module introduces the basics of the immune system, antigen presentation, compatibility testing, and the genetics of the HLA complex, including polymorphism, inheritance, and haplotype relevance in transplantation. The second module focuses on laboratory perspectives, covering the importance of resolution, methodologies for low- and high-resolution typing, and workflow interpretation with case-based learning. The final module explores clinical applications, emphasizing HLA in organ and stem cell transplantation, disease associations, and concludes with interactive doubt resolution and assessments.
